Today dawned a bit cloudy, but it soon became hot, even though the cloud remained. After a breakfast of pork from last night and elder flower tea, we got on with Aenis's cremation. After we had made our personal offerings, Madelyn led the ceremony and Rolf fired the pyre. We only had a few herbs for after a while the stench of burned flesh became bad - and as always it lasted all day, while the fire burnt down.

Rolf stood vigil over the pyre as it burned and in the evening we were able to fill the pit and mark it. While the pyre was burning, I made a smaller fire back at the round house and smoked some of the pork for later, then I helped Elsbeth collect edible plants locally.

Pork stew for dinner, and a quiet evening.
