SunDay 1 Juno

Gods! What a terrible day.  Not the  weather, as it  was  warm and  dry  -  but that  just  seemed to  make the day longer and  more difficult.

Almost as soon as  we landed on the island, just  as  we  were admiring a stone statue of a valiant gnome, we  here  attacked by an awful woman bird.  Since  we have been back, I  have researched her in the Library  scrolls and it  would  seem that  it was a harpy.  However, it  attack  viciously as it  was  defending its  young,  shrieking terribly  and driving us to the  floor  with a  strange effect of  its  noise.  It  was advancing on us as  we  lay  prone and  defenseless, when Callum  managed to  fell it  with one  final blow.

Then onto  what  appeared to be the  ruins of a barracks, that the harpy  had  been using as a base.  In there  we  found a nest of its  young, which  we  slaughtered lest they  should  grow up as their parents.  Indeed my research  shows that Astopane did  raise a young  harpy  from an egg,  but a couple of  years  later  was  found  dead, absolute panic  writ large on his  face  and one of  his  legs  gnawed off.  And  yes, the harpy was missing.

In that  building we also  found a desecrated Norse temple room, which Ravn insisted on cleaning out  and making respectable.   Earl Richard's men finished the job afterwards -  and  now  it  really is a beautifully  worked and kept building.

There  were another  couple of  buildings to  clear and then into the  keep.  We  found some  wondrous things in there.  First  and foremost were the records of the old Galinian Order, which are now catalogued and available in the Tas Bardon Library, along with a brief history of the Albermarles, who  founded and ran the order.

Below one of the towers, we found the crypt that they had  used to  buy the knights of the Galinian order.  Instead of  proper pyre ceremonies they  had placed the bodies in stone  boxes  and kept them.  At the end  we  found the tomb of their  founder, and as we  started to explore it, were suddenly  attacked by a glowing spirit owl.  It  flew around the party  and finally  attacked  Callum.  He  fought  back, but could  not  strike the owl as it  clawed at  him,  and  eventually it  seemed to  scrabble inside him,  and took  over his  mind and body.  it  is the  first  case of possession I  have ever  seen -  and it  was a thing to behold.  I  was  so  fascinated that I  forgot to be  frightened.  Next  thing  we  know Callum's  body, with the  spirit  controlling it, careered into the crypt  and  started hitting a metal statue.  And even worse, the  statue  came  alive  and  started hitting  back.

Rolf and Madelyn led the  assault  -  but in the  end  Elsbeth and  the other were  needed to  overcome it as well.  When it was over, the  spirit  left  Callum and  he  fell to the floor in a dead  faint.  As  we  worked to  help him, the  other  found and enchanted axe and  shield on a corpse at the metal Statues feet.   We  believe that the  sprit was that of the man -  intent on revenge  -  and that  we  were the  first  people into  the  crypt  since he  had  died at the statues  hands.

Kerim managed to  pry the glowing eyes from the metal monster -  and they are still glowing today.  So  there  was  some  benefit  to it.

After  that  we  were  all glad to get back to the  shore  and wait until The Earl  came  back.
