Madelyn moves in front of Herloch by the simple expedient of travelling slightly faster than he - and then slows down - clearly expecting Herloch to retain station behind her. Yuri, who had been jogging to keep up with Madelyn, can now slow to a walk and get his breath back. Kerim and Peter still lead their mules and the donkey a hundred yards or so behind them. |

Herloch slows his pace so that he's equidistant from Yuri and Madelyn in the front and Kerim and Peter in the back. He continues on the trail, keeping quiet and observant. |
