Discovering the simple door locking mechanism Mandrake swings the external door open. The hinges creak a bit, but it appears reasonably solid. Well, solid enough to stand up to most people - if not Callum on his normal form.

Seeing the door open , everybody edges towards the light Kerim and Zhiri going as far as to move out side into the fresh air.

Madelyn moves up at the shout from upstairs, and calls for those who understand locks to step forward. Yuri follows her, to hear what the fuss is about and every one stands, with bated breath, waiting for a locksmith to own up ...

Laddie waits at the bottom of the stairs and bares his teeth at Madelyn as she approaches.

Err -- not me.

Peter Gasgano

"Not something that was in my education, I'm afraid." Says Peter with a slight frown.

Bet Callum's got a key

Rolf

Rolf shrugs as none admit to knowing the ways of locks. "So much for saving the lock." he mutters. Moving aside, he makes a grand gesture to Callum with a hint of amusement behind his words, "If you would be so good, master Callum." He gestures at the door, but then quickly comes on guard, ready to battle whatever might be in need of slaying beyond.

Hold your horses

Mandrake

"I'm coming, I'm coming" calls Mandrake as his little legs carry him up the stairs.

When he reaches them though, he realises why they want a door open, what it leads to.

It is almost with relief that he fails in the task, and he then quickly departs, not wanting to take any part in what is to follow.

Grrr ....

Laddie

Seeing the small two legs approaching and trying to get to his mistress, Laddie jumps up onto the bottom step, bares his teeth, and growls a warning at him.

OOC Mandrake is still at the bottom of the stairs and hasn't made his attempt at the lock yet - as a reward you can roll it again later (if you get there)

Anyone got a bone?

Yuri

Having followed Madelyn towards the steps Yuri witnesses Laddies foul temper first hand.

Having walked up next to Madelyn Yuri crouches down before calling over to the wolf. "Laddie, what are you being so silly for? Elsbeth is ok. Come here", he tries, before venturing forth if the animal does not.

Ok, just ... ...

Laddie

Laddie's ears go down and he sidles across next to Yuri, allowing Mandrake to pass, but there is a small growl from deep in his throat as the Gnome passes.

Woofers and Tweeters

Edgar

Edgar glares at Laddie in admonishment, going so far as to loose a caaaark of disapproval ... from the safety of his perch atop Mandrake's shoulder, of course !

Goo' boy

Yuri

Yuri strokes the back of the wolf's head while he digs out some food for positive reinforcement.

"I think he's a bit scared", he quietly tells those nearby.

Yip

Laddie

Laddie lets out a quiet yip as he settles by Yuri's feet and takes whatever tidbit is offered him.

Summons

Kerim Alakani

Kerim excuses himself of Zhiri's company "I hear that I may be of service inside, a different service than what I can offer here that is. Make sure you keep the door ready to cover yourself should the sirens mate arrive."

He heads up the stairs, padding along lightly as he goes. He reaches the door, looks at it and muses a while.

"Why? Why would such that can fly lock this door?"

Instead of picking the lock he takes to searching the door itself for traps.

After this, he then picks the lock, a quick and humble affair.

If he finds no traps then he will slip away down the stairs to his self appointed guard duty before someone can open the door.

If he finds a trap he will attempt a disarm.

The door ...

Kerim finds no traps on the door and manages to unlock it fairly easily.

Time to explore again

Rolf

As Kerim retreats back down the stairs, Rolf nods to Callum. "Get ready." he warns both Callum and Elsbeth. Holding the sword ready, Rolf pushes the door wide.

More wreckage

johnb (Admin)

As the door swings open, light pours into the dim corridor.

You can see the a gaping hole in the roof and the remains of walls and furiture. Some of those remains have been pulled together, along with other materials to make a huge nest.

The noises that you heard before seem to enimate from inside the nest ..

Ready- still

Elsbeth

Elsbeth stands with her weapon drawn. "I'm being right behind ye," she tells Rolf in a whisper.

What's in the nest?

Rolf

Rolf steps through the doorway, blade raised high. Taking his cue from Elsbeth, Rolf steps forward. Moving slowly, he tries to get a good look at what's in the nest.

The slow advance ...

johnb (Admin)

Moving slowly is not a broblem, although you get the impression that faster movement might be a problem as there is that much debris around.

The nest is huge, the outer walls being 5-6 feet high, and seems to be traditionally cup shaped. You will have to be standing next to it to see inside it.

Fact Finding Mission

Rolf

Rolf looks about the place, trying to see if there is any visible reason not to move up next to the nest.

[Assuming he doesn't see anything....] Rolf moves forward slowly and keeps his head low. Reaching the edge of the nest, he takes an arrow out with his off hand and lets the feathered end of the shaft peek over the edge before he, himself, does the same.

investigating ...

johnb (Admin)

Rolf looks around the area and doesn't see any threats, but as he approachs the nest the squealing noises get slightly louder.

As the feathered end of the arrow is poked over the edge of the sqealing gets much louder. So much so, that the increased volume is noticeable down stairs.

Be my guest

Mandrake

Mandrake is more than happy to let Kerim past him and up the stairs, and instead returns to investigate the room downstairs which he has just opened.

external door ...

johnb (Admin)

It was the outside door that Mandrake opened. See the map on the website www.galinia.org.uk

Not so silent witness

Edgar

Edgar wants more than anything to leave the room, but he forces himself to stay. Alighting from Madrake's shoulder, as the gnome hurries back downstairs, he flutters in the air for a moment, wisely deciding against making a new perch upon Rolf, Elsbeth or (the gods forfend Callum), lest he hinder their movements.

Flapping his wings to gain height, he lands atop a rafter to gain height, trying to do so quietly so as not to attract undue attention.

Alas, even his slight weight is enough to unbalance a broken roof batten that lies across the rafter, and send it crashing down.

With a low caaarck of apology, he sidles down the rafter, so that he can see the nest, but those within can not see him.

The study of a nest

Rolf

Holding the fletching in place, Rolf side steps an arms reach aside. Slowly rising up, he peeks over the edge of the nest and looks inside.

In the Nest

johnb (Admin)

The nest is, as you imagined, the shape of a large bowl. The outside is made from a mixture of broken furniture, bits of tree and anything else you can imagine.

The inside, is similar, but is lined with all sorts of strange things. You can recognise the remains of matresses, curtains, chair cushions and the soft stuff from a variety of other houshold furnishings.

Deep inside the nest, at the centre, are (what looks like) 3 pink things that vaguely resemble the bird woman you fought earlier.

They are roughly the same shape, but have a fine down rather than feathers, and the wings are barely developed at all. They are about twice your size.

They are huddled together in a group, squeaking, their mouths opening and closing, demanding to be fed.

Your best guess is that they are, maybe, 2-3 weeks old. They are clearly not fledged yet.

A Fledgling Dilemma

Rolf

Turning his attention back to his companions, Rolf stands easy and lets the arrow drop. "Be calm, there is no danger. Elsbeth, this is more your field. What do you recommend?"

relief ...

Peter Gasgano

Peter stands quietly, but obviously relaxes when Rolf calls the stand down.

Indicating Zhiri's little friend, he comments. "Ah yes, a gen. I should have realised."

Then adds in accented Midani, "A small creature from the planes of earth, sea, sky and fire," then swapping back to common, "well according to Nabil of Bime anyway.
