131 Aftermath

Rolf shoots a couple more arrows into the mists and Corellon heads off around the side to try and get an attack line on Alhevro. Although when he get to a position where he can see his intended targets he realises that he will have to attack through the body guards if he chooses to continue with that option. One of the guards, however, is limping badly and seems to be getting left somewhat behind the other two, although Alhevro seems to be outdistancing all of the others comfortably.

Kerim drops into the pit and starts slashing at the lizard, and when he sees that Callum drop down as well, managing one last strike against the lizard before he drops to the ground exhausted, his body slowly resuming its normal form. Surprisingly, it only takes those minor attacks before the lizard retreats to the other end of the pit, trying to get away from the assault.

Mandrake starts searching the corpses and finds the expected weapons - 4 morning stars, a couple of battle axes and an undamaged long bow as well as 17 flight arrows suitable for a long bow. Apart from that the dogheads are unclothed apart from various pieces of armour. One has a large silver earring and another sports a leather wrist band decorated with incised and dyed patterns. Two have small sacks attached to their belts.

Back on the trail, Peter moves to collect the mules and stop them moving on as Selina struggles to sit up.

When you return to the trail you notice that Elsbeth's entangle has worn away, and that the wolves and last remaining doghead have slunk away.

The fires on the trail seem to be dying out of their own accord, although the fire in the bushes and peters entangle seems to be growing.

Rolf

Rolf puts up his bow, accepting the outcome of the fight. True, they'd been mauled pretty well, but they all lived and not so much could be said of the dogheads. On the other hand, we're in dangerous territory and not in such good shape. Rolf wants nothing more than to call for a camp and tending wounds, but when you're wounded in enemy territory and the enemy knows where you're at, the wise man seeks to be elsewhere.

He waves everyone over to where the donkey's and the (un)wounded Selina rests, his injuries starting to hurt now that the battle is over. "How is everyone?" Looking to Elsbeth, he adds, "Elsbeth, can you see to the worst of us?" He looks over to Callum and Yuri, "Thanks for showing up, we'd been hard pressed to rout them without your help." Rolf's painful grin and tone makes it obvious that he knows they'd probably all be dead if not for the pair.

"Mandrake, Corellon, could you see about the fire? I hate to say it, but we've got to put some distance between us and this place before nightfall. No reason to make it too easy on the dogheads when they come back with friends."
Together again

Yuri

Yuri smiles. "It was pure luck Callum and I met up, and double that we got here when we did. But no point questioning lady luck, I'm just glad I managed to help.

"You're right about moving on, of course, however... what about the fire I seem to have started?"
Aha!
[edit] [delete]

Corellon Amastacia

Not seeing Rolf call the group back, and effectively ending the fight, Corellon slinks quietly after the lone doghead, and once he reaches him, he quietly slides his shortsword through the creature's shoulderblades, and attempting to pull downward, attempting to remain unnoticed by the other bodyguards.

Kerim Alakani

Keeping the lizard at bay by flashing the flat of his Cutlass at it Kerim bides time to call aid to the exhausted Callum.

When Callum and he are safe enough and he joins the rest of the party he voices his concern for the lizard.

"Leave we must, but let us not in haste leave the poor lizard to rot in yonder pit. Hungry at best was it's flaw that the dogheads exploited, nothing more, and certainly without malice or evil intent."

He looks at Elsbeth for support on this cause.

"Think I do that it should indeed be able to climb out if we pile the dead dogheads at one end, if first it does not eat it's own escape."

If anyone agrees to his plan he will help by getting the mules to load the bodies onto and then cart them to the pit, to speed up the exercise.

If no-one helps, and instead opts for firefighting, then he will at least throw a few bodies in for the lizard to feed on until he has a chance to return and save it.

Ravn Ashengrey

Following Elsbeth back to the others, Ravn notices with ill-disguised satisfaction their success, remarking it to Rolf.

"Constable, it would seem that we have won the day, indeed - and a fairer sight than seeing these trollish fiends sent to Hel were they belong I have as yet to behold. With your leave I shall attend to the wounded to the best of my ability - first, though, we might want to assist Callum in leaving the pit?"

That being said, he walks over to the pit and offers the butt of his spear down to the trapped Celt.

"Here, my friend - heave yourself up lest the lizard feast on your hindside!"

Once Callum is up, the Runecaster greets him with recognition of his efforts, adding a slight taunt.

"It pleases me to see you with us again, brave Callum - though I had expected to encounter you coming up the road and not crawling out from the depths of the earth! It seems there is still much for me to learn of your people's ways, hah, hah."

Then he pauses from wittiness to comment on Kelim's suggestion.

"Southerner, I think your suggestion to toss the dogheads into the pit is a good one - they certainly do not improve on the landscape! However, I suggest you wait until we are ready leave and the mules are well out of range lest the lizard, freed, prefer mule meat. I would expect it to be a good deal tastier than these foul abominations' flesh." Then he notices Kelim's rather severe bruises. "Hmm - looks as though you did your fair share of this battle, too - let me see to that for you."

Dipping his fingers into his own blood, he draws a rune on Kelim's and Callum's wounds, chanting a few words in the Old Tongue.

"There now, that should help a bit."

Then, still feeling bruised, he repeats the procedure on himself.

Speeds and slinking --
[edit] [delete]

As he tries to sneak around the bushes, Corellon realises that even the slower dogheads are moving faster on the open road, than he can move quietly through the bushes.

He has to make a decision:

*- to speed up and possible sacrifice any element of surprise,
*- to stay slinking and let them add more distance
*- to give up the chase

Is she alive?

Peter Gasgano

Peter catches the mules and ties them to a bush before returning to Selina, clearly concerned that she hasn't really moved since the attack, even though her wounds appear healed.

Kneeling by her again, he places his hands on her shoulder and closes his eyes in concentration slowly warmth seems to pass from his hands through into her aching shoulders soothing away just a little of the ache. (Selina 1 point back)

Shaking her gently by the shoulders he looks down at her lack of reaction - shaking his head sadly in concern.

exhausted
[edit] [delete]

Callum mac Aonghas

Callum's exhaustion seems almost complete, It takes Kerim and at least one other to help the huge man stumble from the pit and even then he sits crosslegged on the floor, panting and red faced.

The tattooed warrior nod's his thanks to Ravn as he feels the healng powers with in him, but still seems exhausted.

OOC - Posted by admin. Malc has been unwell and sends his appologies. He hopes to be back soon.
Tis but a scratch

Edgar

Now that the dogsheads have fled, and the area is at least relatively calm once more, Edgar lands on the ground on the far side of the pit, watching as Corellon stalks the stragglers, at least for as long as the rash young warrior remains in sight.

Casting his gaze around, he looks to see if the dogshead leader recovered his chain-joined rods or whether they still lie where they fell, in which case he will bring them to Mandrake's attention.

His own injury no more than a bruise to the wing muscle, that will be stiff for a day or so but no more, he watches as Kerim and Ravn assist Callum from the pit, eyeing the lizard calmly, but concerned for the wounds of the three men, nodding in satisfaction as Ravn calls upon his god to heal them.

"This then is worthy of a tale," he remarks to the rune priest.

Rolf

Rolf looks to the exhausted warrior a moment, surprised at the sentiment. "Aye, but we've only a few moments. And heed Ravn's words to the mules. Kerim, please see to those too wounded to march and find a way for the mules to carry them." He glances over to Mandrake, wondering where Corellon had gotten to. "Mandrake, have the fires been seen to? And Edgar, do you know where Corellon is?"

Kerim Alakani

Callum too ill to post. I have full blown Bronchitis, a cracking neck ache from eternal coughing and I wager the lizard in the pit has a more pleasant singing voice, but still I'm online. What a hero! Cough splutter. My commiserations Callum, I hate it when you're too sick to post, and it seems to be happening more often of late, sigh!!!!

**************************

Kerim does as Rolf bids, offering a curt bow to the Warden. "If it pleases you Effendi the mules will bear the sick indeed."

So for now he drops the notion of saving the lizard and sees to getting the sickest mobile again.

Kerim moves to the mules, picking his bow up from where he dropped it. As he quickly readjusts the mules packs he instructs people to seat Callum on one mule and drape Selina on the other.

Kerim will take Callum's mule, keeping the large man upright and steering the mule for him. He urges Peter do likewise for the unconcious Selina.

He considers tying Selina to the mule somehow but can't figure out how to do it without causing her possible harm or damage, which in her current state might prove detrimental, or worse!

As an afterthought he adds "A scout could from the heavens espy any fast moving group intent on swift revenge. A wise man of course would have two if he could afford it."

Not wishing to appear to give either Ravn or the talking Raven orders.

GM & Callum: I assume that Callum can at least sit atop a mules back, leant forward if need be, and go someway to prevent himself falling from it.

He went thataway ...

Edgar

"Down there," Edgar answers the Constable, nodding towards the trail where the dogsheads fled and Corellon pursued.

GM: How far away is dusk ?
OOC: Time ...

Well the battle itself took a little over 10 minutes ... :) yep seems strange doesn't it? Each of the last few threads was a one minute round ...

I didn't specify when Corellon found the trap - So lets assume its lunch time ....

Mandrake

Mandrake cuts a branch from the shrub and beats at the flames, making sure that he stays upwind of the blaze and holding his cloak before his face in an attempt to ward off the stench of burning flesh.

As he works he grumbles to himself “Why other people can’t clear up after their own dirty work I don’t know!”

"Mandrake, have the fires been seen to? And Edgar, do you know where Corellon is?"

“I’m doing as well as I can on my own, this was no camp fire!” Mandrake calls back attempting to hide the edge of annoyance to his voice.

OOC: I don't know how good that is though ;-)
Confused
[edit] [delete]

Elsbeth

Elsbeth follows Ravn, her eyes downcast, uncertain at both her reaction to healing him and his own brushing off of it. Not so long ago she had been pining over another woman. Now, a man that was (in many ways) the opposite of what she desired was now tugging at her heart.

**Marva, are ye so fickle? Can any kind word find a place with ye? Whether man, woman or beast, are ye so easily won?** she thinks to herself, ruefully.

She agrees with Kerim. "Yon lizard is but a poor beast, we should not wish harm on him." She agrees that placing the bodies in the pit should help, but her mind is elsewhere.

She goes to poor Selina, seeing if her herbal, healing or mystic arts can assist her.

OOC: Sorry I've not been posting- I'm about to embark on a two week training with the US Army which will take me out of touch April 27 to May 11. I've been spending way too much time preparing for it but will post until I leave. Wish me luck! :)
