Subject : Edgar in the Woods ...
-----------------------------------------------------------
Edgar alights momentarily upon the pallisade where
he tries to put the noises of the distant battle out of mind as he scans the
trees with his poor vision, but more importantly listens for any sign that
might betray Elsbeth's presence - perhaps an incantation or the dulcet tones of
the druidesses speech ...
If he sees/hears nothing, then the raven will take wing once more, flying to
the centre of the Haunted wood, where he will seek a perch so he might stop and
listen once more. :>
Quoth the raven ....

In the centre of the woods Edgar finds a small clearing, which is open to the
sky and covered in a mixture of mosses and low growing grass.
In the very centre of the clearing is a small pool surrounded by a low
dry-stone wall, there is a feeling of power here.
But - there is no sign of the missing druidess.

Warily, Edgar wings his way into the woods, circling the clearing before
alighting on the low wall.
"Fàilt," the raven calls, softly. Hail. As much to the
druidess masked by Meeleek's spells as to whatever power may reside here.
Tilting his head, Edgar regards the waters of the pool almost quizzically.

The feeling of power is stong here, and there is ...well almost
.... a feeling of welcome ...
BUT there is not response to Edgar's call

"Something ..." the raven mutters softly to himself, trusting now not
to sight nor hearing but perhaps the least recognised of the senses, intuition.
"Fàilt," he repeats, this time raising his voice, speaking to the ...
presence ... he feels before him, about him, be it sentient or merely the raw
stuff of life within pool or tree or earth.
"In the name of the Old Gods, I greet you," Edgar continues, "I
seek my companion, a servant of the land."

There is no response to Edgar's grreting and all remains sillet, except
for the nise of combat coming from the far side of the woods ...

"Either I imagined it or my words mean naught," Edgar thinks, the
sounds of battle calling him, but his feeling that the missing druid and this
pool are somehow linked. Hopping down from his perch, the raven struts
over to the edge of the pool and peers into the waters.

As Edgar peers into the pool, he sees his reflection more or less as he would
expect to. Sure he looks a bit 'larger than life' and the sky
behind him seems a little bit bluer and brighter than he would
expect - But all-in-all - more or less what he would
expect to see ... ===========================================================

.. and every thing acquires that silent movie, slightly unreal look of
underwater vision. Oh - and it all goes very quiet, and the
noise from the battle in the compound appears to go away ...
other than that - nothing unusual seems to happen. The pool
is only about 7-8 feet in diameter, its shallow at the edges, but
it appears to get much deeper in the center.

Pulling his head back out again, Edgar shakes his beak to clear the clinging
droplets from his feathers.
The centre of the pool is deep ... perhaps TOO deep for such a small body of
water ... and that presence ...
Momentarily the raven is struck with the thought that the druid is here, nearby
... yet far away. Perhaps SHE ventured deeper into the waters.
In consternation, Edgar stares at the waters reproachfully, twitching his
wings, watching and thinking ... [Private to
GM: Any bird/animal life nearby ? Suspect not ... :>]

When Edgar stops to think about it he realises that there are
creatures around, the normal small birds and insects that
one would expect to find in the wwodlands - and
thinking back -- there has even been signs of the normal
small amammals as well.
However - they are much quieter than Edgar would
normally expect, perhaps hiding slightly as well - it is
almost as if they are waiting ....

Turning his attention from the pool momentarily, Edgar is indeed surprised to
note that the forest contains the usual plethora of wildlife. Quiescent,
maybe, but unexpected in a Haunted forest ... unless whatever haunts the
trees is inimical only to those who would wish it harm (or are perceived as
wishing such).
[Private to GM: See if I can locate a wee beastie
that I can chatter too ... if so, see if I can get anything out if it
concerning the recent presence of a "two-legs" :>]

There are a number of small birds - Starlings - sitting on a tree close
to the clearing chattering amongst themselves. ===========================================================

Edgar alights carefully from his spot by the side of the pool, cawing greetings
and endeavouring to show peaceful intent, as he approaches the birds that are
but half his size.
Settling on a branch close by (but not too close), the raven begins to question
the starligns as patiently as he can, attempting to show his friendliness, but
unable to mask a sense of urgency ...
"A two-legs came here ... have you seen her ?" Forget that
Elsbeth was cloaked by the blue mage's veil of unseeing ... that concept might
be hard to convey ...
"Or the voices of men, coming from nowhere ?" The feeling that the
druid met with something in this place is almost palpable ...
"What of the waters ?" Tricky ... perhaps beyond their
comprehension, though he should be able to get some sense of danger, or
conversely protection ... ===========================================================

With a sigh and a cursory thanks, Edgar abandons his questions, lifting from
the branch on which he perches to head towards the fringe of the Haunted Woods
that he might see how things progress in the Fort ... who knows, perhaps
Elsbeth has ventured there after all ?
Though there is still something about that pool ...

Over by the edge of the woods, Edgar can see a strange mist
rising (ooc : map update later) and a mishmash of friends and
foe aloike, as well as the cavalry, which seems to have
turned up in the nick of time. (ooc: see map)

Strangely, Edgar notices the fog (as its become)
seems to top out at about 10 feet, and
he can see clearly, so long as he remaina above
the fog line.
However, Elsbeth, Ladie and Thorgunn - as well as some of the
dogheads have disappeared completely in the fog.
